history

In 1938 the place was cleared together with the neighboring communities, because an air force training area was established here. After 1945, when the residents were able to return, the church and tower were without a roof. The restoration work lasted until 1951.

description

Hippolytus of Rome , a Roman church father of the 3rd century, is venerated as patron in only very few parishes in Germany (see list of Hippolytic churches ), although for a long time he was not a priest and writer, but incorrectly as a Roman officer (the one in prison the Hl. Laurentius to guard, but converted by this and therefore later than martyrs is torn by four horses) was shown.

From the older church, also dedicated to St. Hippolytus consecrated , only the tower from 1724 was preserved in the new construction from 1826 to 1828. The new building according to the plans of the architect Ferdinand Nebel is a three-axis plastered hall with a retracted apse closed on three sides . A sacristy is built to the east. The square west tower with a side length of 5.50 m has four storeys and has the year 1724 in the lintel. On the fourth floor, the bell house, there are round-arched double windows on pillars . The gable roof of the nave extends almost to the eight-sided pointed helmet of the tower. Below the roof approach, a frieze runs around the whole church .

Individual evidence

  1. How the church father could become a soldier in the course of the legend is still largely unclear. Compare with this the chapter "Legends" in Hippolytus of Rome .
