History and description of the building

Church interior

A church building in Kiefenholz is mentioned for the first time in a document in 1146 . The current church has a square tower basement from the Middle Ages . The choir is located in it . The elevation of the eastern tower and the construction of the nave go back to the 17th and 18th centuries. The upper floors of the tower are octagonal and covered with a cranked pointed helmet . The sacristy has a pent roof and is located north of the church tower .

The exterior was renovated in 1833 and the interior restored in 1891. In 1903 the building was plastered again and the tower roof renewed. In 1914 the sacristy was rebuilt, the church expanded to 122 seats and the church building was supplied with electricity. In 1952 a new organ was purchased to replace the instrument from 1891. In 1962 the church was also thoroughly renovated, removing the pulpit and the altar grille , redesigning the Way of the Cross and changing the outer facade. In 1985 and 1986 another thorough interior and exterior renovation as well as a renovation of the church organ took place.

Bells

Church bell from 1841

Two bells hang in the tower: one by Ulrich Deigner, Regensburg, from 1626 and a church bell by the bell founder Joseph Anton Spannagel from Regensburg from 1841. This church bell, which is very important for Wörth, hung in the Wörth parish church of St. Petrus until 1946 and was made on the occasion of the large Wörther market fire on May 29, 1841 by Josef Thanner, farm owner in Hungersdorf (formerly part of Wörth). It survived both the First and the Second World War. In 1970 a new tower clock and an electric bell were purchased.

particularities

In the church there are numerous wooden figures from the late Gothic period , but also from the 18th century. In the anteroom of the church there is a memorial plaque for those who fell in both world wars.
