St. Johannes is a Catholic church with a parish center and parish library in the Steinrausch district of the Saarland district town of Saarlouis .

history

The construction of the Saarlouiser Steinrausches, which began in 1962, meant that, due to the growing population, after the decision to be made into a separate district in 1972, the construction of a modern church called Sankt Johannes began. Before that there was an emergency church on the neighboring property from 1973. On June 23, 1984, the church was consolidated by Bishop Hermann Josef Spital . In the approx. 20 meter high church with a church tower of the same size, the chancel was designed by Heinz Oliberius . This modern church building implements the liturgical reform of the 2nd Vatican Council . The interior of the church is mainly made of wood, as well as an electronic church organ . Since there is no cemetery in the district itself , funerals celebrated there are mainly buried on the neighboring Kreuzberg .

building

The church consists of the actual church , a parish library and a parish center. The church is located on Kurt-Schumacher-Allee, near the town center. There are plenty of parking spaces in front of and between the church building and the church tower. Only the 20 meter high church tower, which is open towards the parish center, is located approximately 15 meters from the building. The 5 meter high wooden cross , which is located in front of the church tower in a kind of nesting made of concrete, is striking . Until the end of the 80s, the cath. The community only has an emergency church (barracks made of wood) with a lending library . This was demolished after the parish center was built in the immediate vicinity. Due to the noticeably sloping roof , the architecture of the church is a special feature of the stone rush.

The electronic church organ dates from 2001 and has 47 registers

The church organ dates from 2001 and was built by the Dutch company Johannus Orgelbouw . In contrast to most of the other instruments in the area, the church organ is fully electronic, so it does not have any pipes . It has a total of 47 registers that sound through 20 bit sampling technology and an amplifier system of 770 watts. The organ is played with two manuals and a pedal . In addition to a few electronic extras, the instrument has an integrated setting system, with the help of which it is possible to save various register combinations and call them up later at the push of a button. This playing aid allows you to play without an inevitable interruption by selecting new registers. The volume of the organ has to be regulated individually for each work as well as for the entire instrument. This means that the number of selected registers does not necessarily have an effect on the volume as it does with ordinary pipe organs.
