Heinz Oliberius (born October 2, 1937 in Teplitz-Schönau in Northern Bohemia , today Teplice , † August 31, 2001 in St. Wendel ) was a German sculptor.

Life

Heinz Oliberius was born on October 2, 1937 in Teplitz-Schönau. After the Second World War and the war-related death of his father, he and his mother came to Arnoldshain in the Taunus near Frankfurt am Main after they were expelled from northern Bohemia . After attending the primary school there, Oliberius completed an apprenticeship in stone and ornament. Then he began in 1959 to study at the State University of Fine Arts - Städel School for the sculpture class with Hans Mettel .

After completing his studies in 1965, Oliberius worked in Frankfurt until 1966 before moving to Saarland , first to Neunkirchen (Saar) and later to Saal (St. Wendel) .

From 1977 to 1979 Oliberius worked as an art teacher at the Willi-Graf-Gymnasium in Saarbrücken , in 1978 he was a lecturer in sculpture at the European Summer Academy in Luxembourg. From 1979 to 1988 he had a teaching position in the design department of the Saarland University of Applied Sciences . He gave basic drawing lessons with Oskar Holweck . In addition to his teaching activities, Oliberius designed numerous works of art in public spaces. In 1978 he took part in the international sculpture symposium in Saarbrücken, during which two stones were created for the St. Johann market , and in 1986 in the art campaign " Street of Sculptures ". From 1979 to 1984 he was chairman of the Saarland Artists Association, of which he had been a member since 1968.

Towards the end of Heinz Oliberius' creative period, mainly small-figure works were created because his health no longer allowed him to carry out large-format works in stone. After a long illness, he died on August 31, 2001.
