The St. Johannis Church is an Evangelical Lutheran parish church in Ettenstatt in the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district in Central Franconia . The church has the address An der Kirche 3 and is part of the Evangelical Lutheran Dean's Office in Weißenburg in Bavaria . The building is registered under the monument number D-5-77-127-1 as a monument in the Bavarian list of monuments. The medieval , underground components of the church and its predecessor are also registered as a ground monument (number: D-5-6932-0246). The patronage is John the Baptist .

The initially late Gothic church was built around 1480. In 1750 the furnishings of the church were adapted to the baroque . In 1711 the four-column altar structure was built. The coat of arms of the Margraves of Brandenburg-Ansbach is from 1750 . From the 17th to the 19th century, servants of the margraves and the von Geyern taverns were buried on the southern wall. The tombstones are preserved. In 1848 the windows were enlarged. The church tower is crowned by a helmet cap.

Exposed ceiling painting

The choir tower church is furnished with valuable paintings from the construction period; including two angel images. The ribbed vault in the tower choir is decorated with acanthus capitals and laurel leaf ornaments , which also appear in the stucco ceiling of the nave. The crucifixion, entombment, resurrection and ascension of Christ are depicted on the altar and its structure.
