St. Kalixtus (Riesenbeck)
The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Kalixtus is a listed church building in Riesenbeck . It is a branch church of the parish of St. Reinhildis in Hörstel in the Ibbenbüren deanery of the diocese of Münster .
history
The first church from the end of the 10th century was probably a wooden chapel. It is believed to be a branch of the original parish , the Christ Church Ibbenbüren .
From the Romanesque church from the 12th century with several extensions, only the west tower with black roof remained. It was canceled in 1807.
The new church was built under the direction of a master builder Thiele from Mettingen between 1807 and 1809. It is a classical hall building . The vault consists of five bays . The vault loads are transferred into the masonry without buttresses. The masonry consists of Riesenbeck sandstone blocks . On November 26, 1809, the church was inaugurated by the Munster auxiliary bishop Caspar Max Freiherr zu Droste Vischering .
The tower was topped up with an onion helmet in 1850 .
The interior painting from 1920 was painted over with a white paint during a renovation in 1965. During a major renovation in 1969, the high altar , the choir stalls and the communion pews were removed. The altar was brought forward in accordance with the guidelines of the Second Vatican Council . A larger sacristy was added on the north side . Further renovations were made in 1989 and 2009.
organ
The organ prospectus comes from the Franciscan monastery in Aschendorf . The organ was built in 1779. The monastery was dissolved during the secularization in 1803 and the prospectus was given to the Riesenbeck Church. In 1940 the organ was classified as no longer playable. A new organ was built in 1923 by the Breil workshop in Dorsten. It was housed in the unchanged case with the historic prospect pipes . In 1979 the organ was extensively renewed. The slider chest instrument has 23 stops on two manual works and a pedal. The game actions are mechanical, the stop actions are electric.

Furnishing
- Torso of the risen Christ , by the baroque sculptor Johann Gröninger
- Some figures from the 19th century
- Two angels making music . The figures are over 200 years old and the Bishops General Vicariate certified them to be of exceptional sculptural quality . These youth angels are kept in the Rococo style.
Grave slab
Inside the church is the grave slab of Reinhild von Westerkappeln , a saint and martyr . The plate is one of the very rare grave monuments of the 12th century with a picture of the deceased. The illustration shows how the soul of Reinhild is received by an angel. The death of Reinhild is reported in a legend.
