location

The Kamillianerkirche is located between Ohler and Dahl east of the railway line. It is a south-west-north-east oriented structure.

architecture

The dominant feature is the massive north-east facade made of dark brick masonry at the end of a central-axial staircase. Deeply cut, facade-high , stepped arched window with artificial glazing; A separate entrance on the outside left, the main entrance is in the window axis and is flanked by a narrow arched window.

Another entrance is on the back of the northeast facade, which serves as a chapel here . Restrained structure of the brick facade by rolling layers, masonry of semicircular arches, ears of corn, crucifixes as well as heads of binder stones slightly protruding from the wall alignment or the arrangement of acoustic arcades and semicircular arches below the eaves . In its simplicity, expressively designed hall church with a rounded end of the choir under a flat ceiling descending towards the choir, which considerably increases the perspective effect (dark nave - light choir) and the spatial illusion.

The north-east facade is illuminated by the three colorful glazed windows mentioned above , the choir is illuminated by a grid of 21 narrow, predominantly clear-glazed, rectangular windows between reinforced concrete pillars. A side aisle-like annex is located on the southeast side and is separated from the main nave by four mighty pillars. The column-supported crypt below the chancel, illuminated through small rectangular windows, is accessible through the aisle. Choir with high altar and altar . Marble flooring , in the ship made of Solnhofen limestone. The north-east facade is accessible from the inside of four galleries , on which the organ originally stood . When the instrument was rebuilt, its location was relocated to the ship in place of the broken pulpit .

The vertical threefold structure of the inner facade is based on the arrangement of mighty pillars. Each axis has three arched positions on each floor. Simple design in the interior with smooth plastered walls, on the galleries with rough plastered walls, furniture and windows.

The object is important for the history of man and cities and settlements . There is a public interest in its preservation and use for scientific, artistic, architectural, historical, local and urban planning reasons. The property is worth protecting as a monument.

Recent developments

The organ housed on the gallery was torn down in 1994 and replaced by a new building that replaced the pulpit that had been removed.

In 2014, St. Kamillus was profaned and then converted into a columbarium , for which purpose the galleries above the entrance area in the church were enlarged to create additional space for the urn cabinets.
