St. Laurentius (Bergisch Gladbach)
The Catholic parish church of St. Laurentius is a listed church building in Bergisch Gladbach , a town in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).
History and architecture
The church was first mentioned as a parish church in 1282 . The current neo-Romanesque basilica made of local limestone was built in three different construction phases. From 1845 to 1847, under the direction of M. Biercher, the central nave was built as a hall church with a provisional choir solution and a coffered ceiling . The transept with choir, the western ship's bay and the western tower in front were added from 1871 to 1878. The structure of the west tower and choir are reminiscent of St. Apostles in Cologne. The groin vaulted aisles were added from 1905 to 1907 under the supervision of Heinrich Renard .

The church is registered under No. 35 in the list of architectural monuments in Bergisch Gladbach .
Furnishing
- The stained glass and the wall paintings in the ship were created during the First World War
- The mosaic decoration in the choir in 1934 to a design by Hans Hansen built
- A wooden Vesper picture from around 1470 comes from the Cologne workshop group of Johan Spee
- The carved figures of saints on the nave pillars from the 18th century come from the old church
- A sandstone crucifixion group stands in a niche on the outer end wall of the south aisle . It was created around 1850 by K. Hoffmann for the high altar
organ
The organ was built between 2000 and 2001 by the organ building company Johannes Klais (Bonn). The slider chests -instrument has 35 registers on three manuals and pedal. The Spieltrakturen are mechanically, the Registertrakturen electrically.
