The Roman Catholic Church of St. Laurentius and Vitus is located in Weinried , a district of Oberschönegg in the Unterallgäu district in Bavaria . The church is a listed building.

history

In place of today's church building there was already a late Gothic predecessor building. The current church was built in the 17th or 18th century. Parts of the previous building were reused. A redesign took place in 1761 by Rupert Beer and an extension to the west in 1929 by David Eberle .

description

The church is a hall with a flat ceiling . The retracted choir adjoins the nave with a three-sided end. The gallery in the west was built in 1929 as part of the extension of the church. To the right and left of the gallery there are transept extensions for the stairs. The square church tower is in the southern corner of the choir. In the upper area the church tower is octagonal . This is finished with an onion cap .

Interior

Both the high altar and the two side altars date from around 1761. The paintings in the extracts from the altars are believed to be by Franz Martin Kuen . The martyrdom of St. Vitus is depicted in the high altar. On the right and left of the high altar there are figures of St. Christopher and St. Florian on volute consoles. The left side altar shows St. Theresa of Avila , as well as Clare and Maria Magdalena . St. Vitus, Aloysius and Scholastica can be seen in the right side altar .

The pulpit dates from the third quarter of the 17th century. The aedicula from 1670/1680 is located opposite the pulpit and was probably originally an altarpiece. Surrounded by the figures of St. Anthony of Padua and Francis is a crucifix from the beginning of the 17th century. The nailing of the cross of Jesus Christ is shown in the extract . The coat of arms of the Fugger-Babenhausen / Waldburg is in the gable above.

Rupert Beer created the stucco in 1761 . The alliance coat of arms of the Fugger-Babenhausen / Waldburg is in the choir arch, as is the coat of arms of the Augsburg prince-bishop Joseph, Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt. There is also stucco above the gallery, but this comes from Xaver Reitmaier and was created in 1929.

In 1761 the frescoes were created by Franz Martin Kuen . In the choir the adoration of the Lamb by the 24 elders is depicted. To the side of it are praising angels. The fresco Laurentius before Emperor Valerien is in the nave. To the side of this are depictions of the cardinal virtues. On the walls of the nave as well as on the walls of the choir there is a partially omitted way of the cross . Anton Niedermaier created the pictures above the gallery in 1930.
