St. Leonhard (Bachem)
The St. Leonhard Chapel in Bachem , a district of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler in the Ahrweiler district in northern Rhineland-Palatinate , is a Catholic chapel from the 18th century. It is a protected cultural monument .
history
The chapel, an exposed quarry stone building , was built in 1716. From 1924 to 1927 the dilapidated chapel was restored and the collapsed wood and clay ceiling was replaced by a barrel vault .
A slender roof ridge adorns the slate roof.
The wooden altarpiece from 1717 is supported by a sculpture of St. Leonhard , to whom the chapel was dedicated. Below is the chronogram : LeonarDVs PraesVL SanCTIssIMVs . The baroque high altar is decorated with columns , with a broken gable and acanthus cheeks . A statue of the Queen of Mary crowns the altar.
The two lead glass windows in the choir , St. Leonhard and St. Depicting Laurentius were created in 1926 by H. Meier glass painting in Bad Neuenahr.
