St. Lubentius (Kobern)
The Catholic parish church of St. Lubentius in Kobern , a local community in the district of Mayen-Koblenz ( Rhineland-Palatinate ), was built in 1827/28.
history
The church replaced the dilapidated become Romanesque parish church that stood in the cemetery. The capitals under the gallery , the baroque baptismal font (around 1700) and the iron grating on the right in the chancel are preserved from this church .
architecture
Exterior construction
St. Lubentius was built as a hall church from rubble stones according to the plans of the architect Johann Claudius von Lassaulx . The unplastered masonry contains decorative elements made from local types of stone: Grauwacke , Mayen basalt and Laacher tuff . The church has no tower , just a roof turret . The four doctors of the church Gregorius , Hieronymus , Ambrosius and Augustine are depicted in large porthole windows on the long sides . The window above the main portal shows St. Lubentius , the patron saint of the church.
inner space
The coffered ceiling with the zodiac signs in the individual fields is striking inside the church . The artist J. J. Potthast from Wiesbaden painted the church in 1907. Above the triumphal arch is a banner with a Latin text that translates as: This is the house of God and the gate of heaven ( Genesis 28:17). The signs of the four evangelists can be seen in the dome of the choir .
The two side altar portraits of St. Lubentius preaching to the Gentiles (right) and Mary's conception (left) are by the Nazarene Joseph Anton Nikolaus Settegast . Both murals were painted between 1836 and 1839 and cost 130 thalers.
