The Church of St. Maria Königin was the Catholic church in Hitzacker in the Lüchow-Dannenberg district in Lower Saxony . Last belonged to the Titles of Mary Queen Mary named Church of the Parish of St. Agnes , based in Luechow , in the deanery Lüneburg the Roman Catholic Diocese of Hildesheim . Since 2006, the nearest Catholic church is about ten kilometers away in Dannenberg .

history

In 1963/64 the church was built at a height of around 32 meters above sea level , and its consecration took place on July 12, 1964 . The building is on the property at Am Landgraben 1 (corner of Höltystraße). The church was a branch church of the parish of St. Peter and Paul in Dannenberg; from November 1, 2006 she belonged with St. Peter and Paul to the parish of St. Agnes in Lüchow.

On December 9, 2006 it was profaned by Auxiliary Bishop Hans-Georg Koitz . Plans to use the building as a city library were not implemented. Since 2011 the building has been used as the “Oktogon” art gallery, named after its octagonal floor plan.

Architecture and equipment

The church was built according to the plans of the architect Hans Hübscher from Wolfsburg , as a solid structure with a cross-crowned entrance tower. The tower cross was given a new place at the ecumenical community center in Kaltenmoor , the two bells came to India . The organ was rebuilt in 2013 in the Dannenberg Church of St. Peter and Paul . Other parts of the inventory went to churches in Bytnica (Poland).
