history

After France declared war on Germany on September 3, 1939 and an offensive against the Saar area began two days later , Saarlanders were evacuated from the Trier diocese to the interior of the Reich area. As a result, the provost community St. Nicolai (Braunschweig) held catholic services in Wendhausen, which had been evangelical-Lutheran since the Reformation , and were held in the evangelical church.

As a result of the flight and expulsion of Germans from Central and Eastern Europe from 1945 to 1950 , the number of Catholics in Wendhausen and the surrounding towns rose again. First a parsonage was built in Wendhausen and a chapel was set up in the basement.

In 1962 the foundation stone was laid for the church. The Wendhausen parish was established on April 1, 1962, and the consecration of the church by Auxiliary Bishop Heinrich Pachowiak followed on December 16, 1962 . On December 1, 1985, the parish was elevated to a parish, and on April 13, 1986 it was given a branch chapel with St. Don Bosco in the neighboring village of Hondelage, about two kilometers away .

Since November 1, 2006, St. Martin has been a branch church of the parish of St. Marien . At that time, the catchment area of St. Martin , including St. Don Bosco , comprised almost 2,200 Catholics.

The towerless church was built according to plans by the architect Philipp from Braunschweig, it is almost 81 meters above sea level and has 168 seats.
