St. Mauritius Church in Muthmannshofen

The Catholic parish church of St. Mauritius is located in Muthmannshofen , a district of the Altusried community in the Oberallgäu district in Bavaria . The church building, which was rebuilt around 1710, is a listed building.

history

Presumably as early as the 13th century, a parish church was built in Muthmannshofen on the site of a former castle stable . In 1166 the lords of Muthmannshofen are still mentioned, who belong to the Hohenthann rule. In the 15th century the church was in a very poor condition, which led to the collection of money for repairs in 1481. In 1502 the church came to the prince monastery of Kempten . The church tower was rebuilt in 1710 and the church tower was raised in 1890. The nave was extended in 1907/1913. The stucco also dates from this time. In the course of an interior restoration in 1952, traces of animal and tendril painting were uncovered on the base zone.

Building description

The church building is located within the village, surrounded by the cemetery , on the eastern edge and is also oriented to the east . The nave has five arched window axes. The retracted and three-sided closed choir adjoins the round choir arch . As in the nave, there are arched windows on the sloping sides. An oratorio opening in the southern corner of the choir leads to the upper floor of the sacristy, which was renovated in 1907 . Both in the nave and in the choir, a flat ceiling is attached over a throat . This was stuccoed in 1913 and decorated with frescoes . The square church tower made of rolling stones rises in the northern corner of the choir . The bell storey was built from bricks in the 19th century. The modern plastered church tower has corner pilasters . On the north side of the ground floor there is a window in an arched niche.

Furnishing

inside view

The high altar and the two side altars consist of marbled wooden structures from around 1710. The altarpiece of the high altar with a painting of St. Mauritius is flanked by two rotated columns. Curved gable pieces and small twisted columns form the extension of the high altar. There are four Rococo angels on the gables. The depiction of the dove of the Holy Spirit in the center is illuminated through a circular window in the apse . The structure of the side altars follows the pattern of the high altar. The central altarpieces from 1710 are flanked by a couple of rotated columns, as are the smaller images in the excerpt above. Mother Anna and Mary are depicted on the painting on the left side altar, and St. Joseph in the excerpt . The right side altar depicts St. Anthony in the altarpiece and St. John of Nepomuk in the excerpt .

The classical pulpit from around 1810 is related to the pulpit of St. Martin in Kreuzthal. The pulpit is rectangular and depicts the Sermon on the Mount, the sower and the Good Shepherd on the back wall in gilded reliefs. A dove of the Holy Spirit is attached to the underside of the fluted sound cover . The 10 commandments are shown on the sound cover.

The wooden, marbled font was created around 1810 . The cheeks from around 1710 have an acanthus tendril relief. In addition, there are several wooden figures in the church, such as a crucifix from the end of the 18th century and two rural baroque figures of St. Joseph and Immaculate . The carrying bar with Our Lady comes from the middle of the 18th century.
