history

A parchment document issued on June 10, 1359 in Avignon indicates the existence of a Maternus pilgrimage chapel in "Alparshusen". The exact location of the chapel in the village is not known. Nothing is known about the possible existence of a church in the village at this time.

The first church in Albertshausen was probably built by the Würzburg prince-bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn in 1615, after Albertshausen was first assigned to the parish of Stralsbach (now part of Burkardroth ) in 1594 and to the parish of Oberthulba in 1612 . This church building initially received the Julius Echter tower that was customary at the time as the choir tower .

Due to the dilapidation of the first church, a new building was planned from 1750 and today's St. Michaels Church was built in 1757/1758 on the foundation walls of the first church . A new nave with three window axes was built. The church tower of the episcopal church building was raised and the spire was replaced by today's onion dome.

In 1863 the church's mechanical slider-door organ was created by the organ builder Wiedemann. It was restored in 1982.

In 1888, sculptor Valentin Weidner created three new altars; the previous ones passed into his possession. The sculpture for the church patron St. Michael on the main altar is identical to the corresponding sculpture, also by Weidner, on the main altar of the St. Michaels Church in Thundorf in Lower Franconia , although the latter is made on a double scale.

In 1933, the economist and hunting tenant Carl Steinbach donated a figure of the Archangel Michael made by the Hausen sculptor Joseph Kirchner, which was first attached to the picture oak near Albertshausen . After the figure was stolen and reappeared in Fulda , it was taken to St-Michaels-Kirche ; Since then there has been a plastic cast on the picture oak.

In 1938 the church received an electric bell system, and in 1955 three new bells. Together with the old bell from 1742, this probably results in a major peal with the tones f ', g', a 'and c' '.

In 1968 the church was expanded under Pastor Friedrich Zahn according to plans by the Schweinfurt architect Emil Mai. A modern new building was added to the church towards the west. This is wider than the nave from 1757/58 and also includes the new choir. The choir in the basement of the church tower became the sacristy. Weidner's altars were also removed and placed in the rectory's attic. Two of them are still completely preserved, one depicts the Holy Sepulcher, the other depicts a nativity scene. The church's tower clock was removed and replaced in 2006 by a new clock on the east side of the tower. The church was consecrated again by Auxiliary Bishop Alfons Kempf in 1969.

In 1988 the tower was renovated and a new belfry was installed.

Another renovation of the church took place in 2017; it began in June 2017 and was completed shortly before Christmas 2017. In this context, walls, ceilings and the stone floor were renovated, the heating renewed, the organs cleaned, extensive electrical installations carried out, a new loudspeaker system installed, the doors re-glazed and the windows and light strips cleaned. In addition, the St Michael sculpture was replaced in a place of honor.
