St. Pankratius is the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Westheim , a parish in the Central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen .

Details

It is the parish church of the village in the Evangelical Lutheran Dean's Office in Heidenheim . The building is registered under the monument number D-5-77-179-1 as a monument in the Bavarian monument list, the previous buildings of the church also as a ground monument (number D-5-6929-0195). The church is located in the center of Westheim directly on the main road, which is part of the federal road 466 . The church patronage is St. Pancras .

history

A first church building, which was erected before 900, and a second church building from before 1100 are assumed to be the predecessor buildings. Church consecration is documented for the second half of the 12th century . Initially the nobles of Auhausen had the right of patronage , later the lords of Truhendingen , from 1376 the monastery of Heidenheim and finally the margraves of Ansbach . The church tower is from the 15th century and was renewed between 1823 and 1826. The nave was rebuilt from 1680 after the destruction of the Thirty Years War , but no longer as a choir tower church , but as a hall church . From 1767 to 1769, small stylistic changes were made by Johann David Steingruber . Between 1798 and 1824 the nave was raised and extended to the west. At the same time, the mansard roof was replaced by a hipped roof. The church tower is 45 meters high and is crowned by an octagonal pointed helmet made of colored glazed shingles. The interior of the hall church, which is now enclosed , was redesigned in the margrave style at the end of the 18th century . The bell from the 14th century is believed to weigh 240 kg, another from 1878 weighs 660 kg, the other two bells from 1921 weigh 325 and 1,100 kg respectively.
