history

A church in Müntz is mentioned for the first time in 945. In 1271 the elevation to the parish church seems to have been completed. Around 1440 the church was expanded in the Gothic style . This church was demolished and rebuilt from 1875 to 1877 according to plans by the architect August Carl Lange in the neo-Gothic style and consecrated on June 20, 1877. It is a three-aisled basilica with a transept. The pillars are made of black marble . The church is bricked with a yellow brick .

The spire was torn down from the church tower on February 28, 2010 by the hurricane Xynthia . It fell on the roof of the aisle and caused considerable damage. Fortunately, people were not injured.

Furnishing

In the church there is a late Gothic Antwerp reredos showing the Passion . The wings date from the 19th century. There are two side altars from the neo-Gothic style , benches and figures as well as the original, ornamental painting of the church. The windows of the church were created by Maria Katzgrau in 1953 .

organ

The organ was built in 1843 by the Gebrüder Müller organ builder from Reifferscheid . It was created for the previous church. The Linnich organ builder Michael Dauzenberg revised the work after the new church was built in 1877. In 2004 the organ was completely restored by the organ building workshop Heintz from Schiltach. It has 24 registers on 2 manuals and pedal and an unusual range in the manuals from Cc 4 .
