The Catholic parish church of St. Peter and Paul in Ellerbach , a district of the municipality of Holzheim in the district of Dillingen an der Donau in the Bavarian administrative district of Swabia , was built in the middle of the 19th century on the site of a previous Gothic church. The tower dates from the 14th / 15th centuries. Century. The church is dedicated to the apostles Peter and Paul .

history

Ellerbach is an old parish that was first mentioned in 1333. Since the 16th century, the Fultenbach monastery was the sole landlord in the village and presumably also held the church patronage. In 1860 the choir , church and sacristy were rebuilt. Only the tower of the previous Gothic church has been preserved. During the interior renovation in 1911, the lead glass windows were installed and in 1963 the interior was completely redesigned.

Exterior construction

In the northern choir angle, the six-storey tower, which rises from a steep gable roof is covered. The walls of the tower are structured by corner pilasters and blind fields with round arches. The top floor is broken up by sound arcades in the form of round-arched twin windows. The entrance is on the west facade. The sign was added in 1964.

In the outer wall there is a grave slab for the abbot of Fultenbach Monastery, Magnus Freiherr von Wellenstein, who died in 1723 at the age of 83.

The single nave nave is divided into four axes and is covered by a flat ceiling . A round arched choir arch opens up to the drawn-in, three-sided closed choir. The walls of the choir and nave are pierced by large arched windows. The western end is a gallery that rests on two wooden pillars.

The ceiling and gallery paintings were made by Karl Manninger .

Leaded glass window

The lead glass windows were created in 1911 in the workshop of Hans Bockhorni in Munich based on designs by Joseph Peter Bockhorni . The scenes represent the stations of the cross .

Furnishing

  • The group of sculptures depicting the baptism of Jesus on the lid of the baptismal font is a work from the second half of the 18th century.
  • A memorial plaque in the church commemorates those who fell in the Napoleonic Wars .
