St. Peter and Paul (Fretterode, Roman Catholic)
The Catholic village church of St. Peter and Paul is in the municipality of Fretterode in the Eichsfeld district in Thuringia . There is an evangelical church in the village that bears the same name.
History and structure
The church, a rectangular hall with a retracted choir and roof turret , was built between 1680 and 1684. The consecration took place in June 1685 by Auxiliary Bishop Johann Daniel Gudenus from Erfurt .
The neo-Romanesque high altar - reredos with a tower-like structure and a central crucifix, flanked by Sacred Heart and Heart of Mary statues in arched niches, was built in 1893.
Sculptures of Mary with the Child (wood, around 1900), the Evangelist Matthew (wood, 15th century) and the Stations of the Cross (around 1900) decorate the church.
In 1928, Norbert Krohmer painted the ceiling with the scenes of Christ with the Cross , the handover of the keys to Peter and the conversion of Saul .
The bells were cast in Bremen in 1922 and in Apolda in 1955 .
The organ with 8 registers , divided into a manual and a pedal , was created by Knauf & Sohn in the 19th century .
Renovations took place in 1980 and 2002.
