St. Peter and Paul (Cappeln)
St. Peter and Paul in Cappeln (Oldenburg) is the parish church of the Catholic parish of St. Peter and Paul Cappeln, which belongs to the Cloppenburg dean's office of the diocese of Münster .
history
In the 12th century there was a chapel in Cappeln which belonged to the parish of Emstek . 1159 Cappeln was ausgepfarrt . The former chapel was elevated to a parish church and enlarged several times in the following centuries. From 1900 to 1902 it was replaced by a new building by Hilger Hertel the Younger .
Building description
The neo-Gothic hall church made of red brick with ashlar structure has a transept , a recessed polygonal choir and a projected west tower .
Furnishing
Most of the furnishings come from the time the new church was built. These include the lead glass windows designed by Wilhelm Derix in 1902 , the Way of the Cross by Johann Bartscher as well as the altar , pulpit , choir stalls and wall paintings .
The Romanesque font made of Bentheim sandstone (Bentheim type), which was made around 1200, baroque figures from the workshop of Thomas Simon Jöllemann , a lecture cross from the late 18th century and a bell by Hermann Klinghe from 1494 were taken over from the previous building .
Two altars from the old church are in St. Marien in neighboring Sevelten .
