Interior of the church

The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Petrus and Marcellinus is the village church of Eußenheim in the Lower Franconian district of Main-Spessart . It is one of the architectural monuments of Eußenheim and, together with the remains of the churchyard wall, is entered in the Bavarian list of monuments under the number D-6-77-127-1 . Eußenheim is the center of the Bachgrund parish community.

history

A church in Eußenheim is mentioned for the first time in a document from 1277. The church tower built in the 13th century and still preserved belonged to this church building, which burned down almost completely in 1615 . After the fire, the choir and nave were rebuilt between 1617 and 1620. The new building was inaugurated in 1622. In 1640 the church tower also burned. In 1890, instead of the furnishings created after the fire, the church was given three neo-Gothic altars, of which only the high altar (changed) is still there.

description

The choir with ribbed vault faces east. The nave with a trough-shaped ceiling adjoins it. The church tower on the south side is a Julius Echter tower with ogival sound windows . A round stair tower stands by his side. The nave has a trough-shaped ceiling. The church windows are ogival with tracery.

Furnishing

On the high altar you can see a crucifix and a figure of Christ above the tabernacle, as well as the church patron on the side pedestals. The side altars were probably made in the 20th century. The altarpiece on the right side altar depicts the martyrdom of St. Kilian , probably painted by Johann Ulrich Bühler in 1623, that of the left side altar depicts the crucifixion of Christ . Next to the left side altar is the baptismal font depicting the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan. On the southern wall of the nave hangs a former altarpiece of the Coronation of Mary , which Johann Baptist de Ruel created in 1664. A Pietà from around 1500 can also be seen in the church . On the west side there is a double gallery with a freely floating organ case. Four bells with the tones e '- g' - a '- h' hang in the church tower .

Remarks

  1. ↑ It is not known what structural measures this second fire entailed.
