The Salvator Parish Church is a Roman Catholic church in Anklam in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district , Friedländer Straße 37. It was built between 1900 and 1901 and is a listed building .

history

The Salvator Church was built for the Polish and Silesian seasonal workers who worked as reapers on the surrounding estates during the harvest season . The Berlin architect Engelbert Seibertz designed a spacious, neo-Romanesque basilica . The then affordable building site lies on a silted branch of the Peene ; the planned tower could not be built because of the complex pile foundation required for it, a roof turret was erected.

In 1910 and 1935 the church received extensive painting of the apse , which was whitewashed in 1964. Instead, a five-meter high fresco of the Pantocrator was created as the only decoration .

In 2006 the Salvator Church was extensively renovated and a new altar was consecrated.

Nave interior view

The six jochige nave of the three aisled basilica has in the nave, a barrel vault and in the aisles groin vault . In the east, after a short intermediate bay , the chancel is closed by a high apse with the Pantocrator depiction. The south aisle closes with a small windowless apse in which there is a Pietà as a figure of Mary . A spacious sacristy adjoins the north aisle in the east .

The exterior is structured by decorative arches and pilasters made of brick , with plastered wall surfaces in between. Instead of a tower, the location of which was left out in the north-west corner of the church, the church has a copper-clad roof turret with two small bells. On the west facade there is a deep stepped round arch portal. Above the three large west windows there is a cast-iron lettering in a semicircle, which reads: "Christ vincit - Christ regnat - Christ imperat" (Christ wins - Christ rules - Christ rules). It is taken from the liturgy of the Feast of Christ the King .

local community

The Roman Catholic Church is part of the Deanery of Western Pomerania in the Archdiocese of Berlin . The Herz-Jesu-Kirche in Wolgast has also been part of the parish since 2004 .
