Großbaren, St. Stephanus

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Stephanus is located on the Kirchberg von Großrechen , a district of Großlohra in the Nordhausen district in Thuringia . The parish of Großrechen belongs to the parish Niedergebra in the parish of the southern Harz of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

The church is a small, simple baroque hall church made of plastered quarry stones without a church tower , but with a separate half-timbered house for the belfry , in which there is a bell cast in 1474 in addition to two chilled cast iron bells . It was built in the 17th century in place of a small Romanesque chapel from the 12th century. The nave is covered with a gable roof from which a roof turret rises. The interior is covered with a stuccoed barrel vault. It contains a wooden gallery from the construction period . The pulpit altar with sound cover , on top the eye of God , date from this time.

The organ with eight registers , divided between a manual and a pedal , was built in the 19th century by Robert Knauf & Sohn and restored in 1953 by Fritz Haßkarl.
