The St. Vitus Church

St. Veit is the Evangelical Lutheran parish church of the community of Solnhofen in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen . In the immediate vicinity are the ruins of the Sola basilica , some of which were also built over by the St. Vitus Church. The building with the address Senefelderstraße 6 is registered under the monument number D-5-77-168-25 as a monument in the Bavarian monument list.

history

At the site of today's St. Veit church, there were already several churches in some cases. (see Sola basilica # predecessor buildings ) A monastery was also operated in the immediate vicinity until 1534 . In addition, a "St. Vitus Church" already existed on local cardboard soil . The Sola basilica was damaged due to ground pressure from the mountainside to the west. For this reason, it was decided to build a new church.

While the northern side grinding with the tumba was preserved, the southern part of the basilica was demolished. In 1784 the foundation stone for the new building was laid. The tower of the basilica was built into the new building and raised. The church was finally consecrated on June 19, 1785. It was built by master bricklayer Paul Arauner under the direction of the building inspector Bruckner.

Building

The solo medallion

St. Vitus was built in margrave style, which is why the pulpit and organ are above the altar. It is a hall building with a gable roof and a three-sided conclusion. There is also a facade tower with a tent roof . A niche was created in the interior for the fallen soldiers of the Franco-German War and the First and Second World Wars . In addition, there is a reconstruction of the solo medallion from around 1065 on the inner wall , which can also be seen at the parish office. It represents the sponsorship of the previous church, Emperor Ludwig the Pious . Outside the church is the churchyard.
