State Palaces, Gardens and Art Collections Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (SSGK MV) is a higher state authority in the portfolio of the Ministry of Finance of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .
Emergence
The authority was established with effect from January 1, 2018 by the law passed by the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state parliament in 2017 to establish the "State Palaces, Gardens and Art Collections Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania" (Castle, Gardens, Museum Management Modernization Act - SGMVwModG MV) . The amalgamation is the implementation of a recommendation made by the consulting firm Exponatius in 2013. It is intended to resolve the fragmentation of responsibilities for the properties between various state institutions (Ministry of Finance, Operation for Construction and Properties Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, State Museum Schwerin ) and to unite the technical and personnel Manage resources. Around 140 people will work in the new authority. The first head of the authority was Pirko Kristin Zinnow .
tasks
The state authority brings together the State Museum Schwerin, the palace and gardens administration of the Ministry of Finance and the palace and gardens administration of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania building and property company under one roof. It bundles the existing specialist skills in an institution and is intended to shorten decision-making processes and use synergy effects. In addition, it is about intensifying the transfer of knowledge, carrying out joint exhibition projects, creating a single point of contact for the tourism industry and coordinating marketing activities. The transfer of the owner function for the managed properties is not associated with the reorganization, and the builder for construction work on the properties (including building maintenance and repair work) remains in principle with the state building administration (with the exception of caretaker services, green maintenance, etc.).
She is responsible for the 17 state-owned palaces and gardens.

The State Museum Schwerin (SMS), now just a department within the SSGK MV, also included the three palaces in Schwerin, Ludwigslust and Güstrow until 2017. With the new structures since 2018, the State Museum Schwerin now only includes the gallery building in Schwerin at the Old Garden. This downgrading led to the long-time director of the museum, Dirk Blübaum , having his amended contract examined by the labor court . In a settlement, Blübaum and the Ministry of Finance agreed to terminate his employment in two years. The focus of the activity there is the management and the scientific exhibition treatment as well as the art-historical research, the preservation, care, research and presentation of the art treasures and collections of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, as well as the mediation of art as a public mandate for cultural education.
The state part of Mecklenburg is overrepresented in the managed state-owned castles and gardens compared to the state part of Western Pomerania . A sale is being prepared for Karlsburg Castle (Western Pomerania) in 2018. According to a decision by the state government of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in December 2017, Ludwigsburg Castle (Western Pomerania) is to be renovated with state funds and used in future as a museum under the umbrella of the Pomeranian State Museum Foundation .
Service building
The seat of the authority is in Schwerin, Werderstr. 141. The building is part of the architectural monument villa ensemble Werderstrasse 125 to 141 . It was built in 1864, with a plastered facade in light beige, the house entrance with a portico in front and stained glass windows and a winter garden with colored stained glazing (1864) and a side driveway into the courtyard.
