The stachyurus ( Stachyurus ), also welding ferries called, are the only plant genus of the family of Stachyuraceae . They have their areas in eastern Asia.
description
The Stachyurus species are deciduous or semi- evergreen shrubs , occasionally also small trees .
The alternate , undivided leaves are oval and at the front triangularly pointed to broadly lanceolate , in Stachyurus salicifolius narrowly lanceolate. The leaf margin is usually finely serrated, with some species also with larger blunt teeth. At the base of each leaf there are two long, pointed stipules that fall off early.
The inflorescences , which usually appear before the leaves in early spring, are typical . In each bud, in most species there is a downward-hanging, in some also upright, pearl necklace-like grape . The radially symmetrical , short-stalked, whitish to yellowish flowers are four-fold. The bell-shaped flower shell consists of four petals and four similarly shaped but smaller sepals , which each overlap far at the edges. The eight stamens are in two circles. The quadruple ovary is above. A berry with a leathery pericarp is formed.
use
The Japanese pearly tail and the Chinese pearly tail are sometimes found as ornamental plants , but mostly in botanical gardens. Otherwise the genre is completely meaningless economically.
Occurrence
All species of the genus come from East Asia, including Stachyurus praecox from Japan , the other species come from China to the Himalayas .
All species grow as undergrowth in forests or in thickets on the edge of the forest.
