The stadium pod Goricom ( Cyrillic Стадион под Горицом ) is a football stadium in the Montenegrin capital Podgorica (from 1946 to 1992 Titograd). It is owned by the city and its full name is Gradski Stadion pod Goricom ( German municipal stadium below the hill ). The stadium is the largest arena in the country. It currently offers 15,230 places in its four tiers. The main user of the stadium is FK Budućnost Podgorica .
history
The beginnings of the stadium go back to the time of the Second World War . At that time, a football field was created by Italian soldiers, on which, among other things, games were played by military teams. After the war, the stadium pod Goricom was built in 1945 and FK Budućnost Podgorica found a new home. In 1954 a fire destroyed the stadium. During the reconstruction, wooden rows were built on the long sides in the east and west and a clubhouse . After Budućnost Titograd was relegated from the 1st Yugoslav football league in 1963 , the venue was renovated in 1975 to return the club to the House of Lords.
In the early 1980s, Pod Goricom offered 32,000 seats, 22,000 of which were covered. On May 28, 1989 Budućnost celebrated its premiere in the stadium under floodlights . The home side won the game 3-0. It was only after 15 years that things started to happen again in the stadium. In 2004 Budućnost Podgorica fought his way to the 1st football league of Serbia and Montenegro . This was taken as an opportunity to renovate the stadium. New two-story grandstands were built behind both gates. The complete seating in the stands was also replaced. Furthermore, the changing rooms were renewed. These modifications also led to the goal of being able to play future international matches in the stadium.
After Montenegro gained independence in mid-2006, a stadium that met the requirements of UEFA and FIFA was required for upcoming international matches . In order to achieve this, the natural grass field was given a new drainage system . New changing rooms have also been installed in the south stand.
On March 24, 2007, the Montenegrin national football team played the first international match in their history in the Podgorica stadium. The debutants won the friendly against Hungary with 2-1 goals. Since the stadium is the only venue in Montenegro that meets the requirements of the UEFA and FIFA associations, all home games of the national team have so far been played in Pod Goricom . In addition, it is the venue for international matches of the Montenegrin clubs and, since 2007, the finals of the Montenegrin football cup .
