The city bus Bocholt GmbH (proper spelling bus Bocholt ), a subsidiary of Stadtwerke Bocholt , was founded in 2001 and is a provider of public transport in Bocholt . Westfalenbus GmbH , a subsidiary of DB Regio , is currently commissioned to carry out the trips. In 2015 around 1.4 million passengers were on the 12 lines.

history

The city bus project began in Bocholt on August 19, 2001. Stadtbus Bocholt GmbH was registered one year earlier; The managing director was Guido Stilling. He held the position until August 2003 when he moved to Krefeld. During the transition period, Carsten Groot took over the management, and Jens Dörpinghaus has been the managing director since August 2004. Stadtbus Bocholt GmbH has also been a subsidiary of Stadtwerke Bocholt since the same year.

The buses, which ran between August 2010 and the end of 2018, had a blue and green design like their predecessors, but red and white buses were used for one month in July 2010. At the beginning of 2019, with the change of operating company, a new fleet of buses with a slightly revised design was put into operation, which will also include a battery bus from autumn 2019 .

Award dispute 2010

Who would emerge from the last competition as the winner was initially disputed. NIAG ( Rhenus Veniro ) had objected to the planned award to the best bidder SWK Mobil ( Krefeld ): According to the municipal code of North Rhine-Westphalia, a purely communal company should not be economically active so far from its home community. The public procurement tribunal at the Münster district government initially followed this line of argument. In contrast, the subsequent instance, the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court, tended to reopen the tendering process due to procedural deficiencies - with new opportunities for all previous applicants and therefore an uncertain outcome for those involved. Their eventual agreement prevented the Düsseldorf judges from making a negative decision for both sides. From 2001 to 2010 Stadtbus Bocholt GmbH outsourced the services to RVM Verkehrsdienste, a branch of Regionalverkehr Münsterland (RVM) . As a sub-contractor, NIAG (Rhenus Veniro) uses buses at peak times.

Lines

The company offers a total of 12 connections. The central point for all lines is the bus meeting point ( bus station ) in the city center. The following city bus lines operate here:

Only one bus is used per line. This runs on lines C1-C6 every 30 minutes from the city districts to the bus meeting point and has a rendezvous procedure at minutes 15 and 45 to the other buses. Lines C7 and C8 only run every 60 minutes, the lines marked "T" are taxi buses and must be booked in advance by telephone.

The city bus only runs during the day from Monday to Saturday; in the winter half-year there is an additional evening ride from Monday to Friday. In the late evening and on Sundays, collective taxis also run , but on special days or for certain events, Stadtbus GmbH offers additional scheduled trips. For example, to the Bocholt autumn fair, the buses run until late at night. Special transports to concerts are also offered. An expansion of the operation, especially in the off-peak hours, is requested by the public.

Due to high demand, the previous line T13 will be converted into a regular line C13 in 2019 and will continue with a special 20/40 minute cycle in order to better ensure connections to other connections.

At the beginning of 2018, a bus line between Bocholt and Aalten was set up for a test period of 5 months , it operated as the C11. This was followed by a discussion as to whether the connection should be offered permanently.

Since November 2019, the bus has been free for one year on a trial basis on Saturdays.

Bus meeting

The bus meeting point is in the northern city center on Europaplatz. The city bus routes C1 to C6 go to bus platform C, C7 and C8 and the taxi buses stop at platform D.

Shortly after it was put into operation, the bus meeting place was given a roof to serve as weather protection. It has the design of a bridge and blends in well with the overall appearance of the square, where, in addition to the city bus center , banks and the press house of the Bocholter-Borkener Volksblatt are located. However, the stop areas C and D cannot be reached by double-decker buses ( Sprinterbus S75 to Münster) due to the roof protruding into the street . There is a two-story underground car park below the bus meeting point.
