Stenern is a district of the city of Bocholt in the Borken district .

location

Stenern is located northeast of the city center between the Hohe Giethorst district and the Barlo district . The Bocholt hospital was also built here.

history

On January 1, 1975, Stenern was incorporated into the city of Bocholt. Previously, Stenern was a parish in the Liedern-Werth district.

Development

Behind Biemenhorst , Stenern is Bocholt's second largest district in terms of inhabitants. Around 4500 people live between the city center and the Holtwicker Bach, mainly in single-family and semi-detached houses. Multi-family houses have only been built in isolated cases. After the community reform in the 1970s, the St. Agnes Hospital in Bocholt was relocated from the city center to Stenern. It now forms the center of the settlement and is delimited on three sides by residential buildings. The as yet undeveloped area on Barloer Weg will be redesigned over the next few years with a large housing estate and the Stenern / Giethorst local supply center. An expansion area for the hospital is also planned here.

traffic

The Adenauerallee and the Barloer Weg connect the city center with Stenern. Stadtbus Bocholt GmbH's C1 line ensures local public transport and commutes between the hospital and Europaplatz every half hour.

The planning of the Bocholter Nordring is currently being discussed in the city council. It would ensure a faster connection between Stenern and federal highways 67 and 473 and also relieve the inner city of traffic. Presumably only a section between Barloer and Burloer Weg will be realized at first.

Sports

The DJK TuS Stenern offers residents of the northern districts of Bocholt the opportunity to practice club sports. Since the number of members is growing steadily, the entire club area will be rebuilt this year at a new location, the so-called Sportpark Hünting.
