It is consecrated to Saint Gregory and belongs to the Windischgarsten deanery in the Diocese of Linz . The building is a listed building .

history

Around 1100 Abbot Alram I von Kremsmünster had a Romanesque church built, which was consecrated to Saint Gregory in 1119 by Bishop Ulrich von Passau . For several decades, Kirchdorf was a branch of the Wartberg parish. In 1359 Kirchdorf and Wartberg were incorporated into the then Cistercian convent in Schlierbach . Kirchdorf has belonged to Schlierbach since then . From 1470 to 1491 the Romanesque church was Gothic rebuilt and expanded. In 1654 the church vault collapsed, the newly built barrel vault existed until the general restoration in 1962/63. The old tower was on the west side, where the main entrance is today. The new construction of today's baroque tower on the south-east side began in 1682, the completion was delayed by the city fire in 1686 to 1690. In 1727 the sacristy was rebuilt . Until 1758 the cemetery was by the church, which is now on Hausmanninger Strasse. The vault above the high altar had to be secured with iron locks in 1842. The church, the tower roof and the bells fell victim to the town fire in 1877, the interior of the church remained undamaged. In 1889 the church tower was finally restored, until then it had a temporary pyramid-shaped cover. In the years of World War I and World War II, the bells were removed, in the second case the death-bells remained. New pews date from 1951 and in 1953 the church was consecrated by Bishop coadjutor Franz Zauner . A war memorial on the west side dates back to 1924, the current memorial was inaugurated on October 14, 1962. The years 1962/63 brought a profound redesign of the interior of the church: the vaults gave way to a exposed ceiling with a beam system, only Gothic cross ribs remained in the preserved north aisle. The abstract stained glass windows also date from this period. The church was rededicated on October 27, 1963. In 1972 the chancel was redesigned and the new organ consecrated. The church tower was last renovated in 2012: parts of the cornice loosened due to frost at the end of January and fell onto the church square. The cost was around € 200,000.

The parish church of Inzersdorf im Kremstal in the neighboring village also belongs to the parish of the parish church in Kirchdorf . The Marienkirche Inzersdorf was consecrated in 1975.

Church building

The church tower is in the southern corner of the choir. The two lower floors of the church tower are Gothic . The inscription "Enser 1470" can be read on the second floor. The three other upper floors were built between 1692 and 1690. Above it is an onion helmet with a lantern . The late Gothic south portal has a baroque vestibule. In the tympanum the remains of a Gothic fresco “Christ on the Mount of Olives” from the 15th century can be seen.

In the main nave there is a exposed ceiling with a beam system, while in the north aisle there is Gothic cross ribs.

Furnishing

A large late Gothic crucifix hangs above the popular altar. The stained glass windows in the choir and nave were designed by Lydia Roppolt and made in the Schlierbach pen glass painting. The organ on the west gallery dates from 1972. On the south wall by the choir hangs the former high altar painting from 1723, which depicts St. Gregory. On the outer west wall next to the main portal is a statue of St. John Nepomuk from the end of the 18th century.

On the east wall of the north aisle there is a Gothic winged altar from around 1490. The four panels, painted on both sides, show scenes from the life of Mary , in the middle there is a plastic representation of the coronation . The predella shows a relief of Mary's death . He originally comes from Wartberg an der Krems .

In 1908, as a bequest from the servant Johann Ferstl, the church received a Christmas crib by the well-known crib maker Sebastian Osterrieder , which was extensively restored in 1997 and is set up every year at Christmas time.

environment

In the church square there is a fountain with a representation of the Holy Trinity. On the west side there is a war memorial dedicated on October 14, 1962.
