The Sparkasse Hannover is one of the largest savings banks in Germany and has its headquarters in Hanover in Lower Saxony . Your business area is the Hanover region including the state capital Hanover. Today's Sparkasse Hannover was created through the merger of the formerly independent institutes Kreissparkasse Hannover and Stadtsparkasse Hannover . It has 91 branches or locations with self-service machines ( ATM and bank statement printer ) in the city of Hanover and the surrounding area , eight of which are fully equipped customer service branches . In 2019 it employed 1,734 people.

history

The Stadtsparkasse Hannover was founded in 1823 as the “Spar- und Leih-Casse in the royal residence city of Hannover” and was one of the oldest institutions in the history of the German savings bank . The first branch was set up in 1894, and in 1897 the “Sparkasse of the Royal Capital and Residence City of Hanover” was created with a new statute. In 1918 it was merged with the Lindener Sparkasse . It was renamed "Sparkasse der Hauptstadt Hannover" in 1929. In 1943, the Sparkasse merged with the capital and insurance company. It was renamed “Stadtsparkasse Hannover” in 1972 and had 68 branches at the time. The new main office at Raschplatz in Hannover was opened in 1977.

The Kreissparkasse Hannover was originally founded in 1878 as the “savings, loan and advance payment bank of the Hanover district” and in 1885 it was renamed “Sparkasse des Landkreis Hannover”. In 1907 the first "acceptance points" were set up. In 1975 the "Kreissparkasse Hannover" was created through a merger with the Kreissparkassen Burgdorf , Neustadt am Rübenberge and Springe . The new headquarters at Aegidientorplatz were moved into in 1978.

At the end of 2001, Stadt- und Kreissparkasse Hannover merged to form the largest financial service provider in the region. On June 26, 2002 the chairmen of the board of directors Herbert Schmalstieg (Stadtsparkasse) and Michael Arndt (Kreissparkasse) signed the merger agreement for the first German savings bank to be run by a region. On January 1, 2003, the legal merger into one of the largest German savings banks was completed. The technical consolidation of the holdings followed in October 2003.

In 2015, the Sparkasse moved into its converted headquarters on Raschplatz. Around 700 employees were initially housed there. The previous locations were given up.

The Sparkasse Hannover is part of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe and thus also belongs to its liability association. He secures the existence of the institutes and ensures that they can meet all liabilities even in the event of individual savings banks becoming insolvent . The Sparkasse arranges home loan and savings contracts from the regional building society , open investment funds from Deka and insurance from VGH Versicherungen . In the area of leasing , Sparkasse Hannover works together with Deutsche Leasing . The Norddeutsche Landesbank performs the function of the Sparkasse central bank .

The Sparkasse Hannover is an institution under public law . The legal basis is the Lower Saxony Savings Bank Act and the statutes issued by the Hanover Region as the Sparkasse's sponsor . The organs of the Sparkasse are the four-member executive board, which is appointed by the administrative board. The board of directors is responsible for the management. According to the Articles of Association, the Board of Directors consists of 18 members.
