Stagmatophora is a genus of butterflies from the family of cosmopterigidae (Cosmopterigidae).

features

The moths are small and have lanceolate fore wings with a pointed apex . The basic color of the forewings ranges from reddish orange to dark brown. The wing markings include costal spots or bands, and there are often raised spots. A fringe line is either created or missing. The hind wings are very narrow.

In the males, the tegumen is well developed. The brachia are strongly asymmetrical: the right brachium is much longer than the left. The blades are wide and rounded. The right valvella is larger than the left. The aedeagus has a bulbous base and a long, tubular distal part.

In females, the apophyses posteriores are longer than the apophyses anteriores . The sterigma is rounded. The ductus bursae is narrow and membranous. The corpus bursae is elongated, membranous and has two internally protruding signs.

distribution

The representatives of the genus are native to Europe, South Africa, Asia and Australia.

biology

The only species native to Europe, Stagmatophora heydeniella, feeds on mint family (Lamiaceae).

Systematics

The type species of the genus is Oecophora heydeniella Fischer von Röslerstamm , 1841.

In the past, many species were assigned to other genera, for example Eteobalea , Vulcaniella , Isidiella , Hodgesiella and Tolliella . According to S. Yu. Sinev, only S. heydeniella can be safely assigned to the genus Stagmatophora . For all other species currently assigned to this genus, membership according to S. Yu. Sinev unsure, these are therefore marked with a question mark.
