Stanislaw Bereś

Stanisław Bereś (born May 20, 1950 in Wrocław ) is a Polish literary critic , literary historian and poet . In his scientific research he is mainly concerned with the Polish literature of the 20th century.

Life

Bereś attended grammar school in Wrocław from 1964 to 1968. After graduating from high school in 1968, he studied at the University of Agriculture in Wrocław, but in 1969 he began studying Polish at the University of Warsaw . From 1972 to 1973 he also studied cultural studies . In 1973 he obtained his master's degree and was employed as an assistant at the Institute of Polish Philology. As part of his doctoral thesis on the Żagary group of poets , he interviewed Czesław Miłosz , Jerzy Putrament , Aleksander Rymkiewicz and Jerzy Zagórski . Unlike later interviews, however, these remained unpublished. From 1979 to 1982 he was director of the Institute for Western European and North American Studies. In 1982 he received his doctorate with the thesis Poezja żagarystów do roku 1945 and became a research assistant at the Institute for Polish Philology. He also lectured at the Cracow State Theater School until 1987 . In 1987 he lectured at the University of Charles de Gaulle in Lille and made programs for Radio France Nord . In 1989 he completed his habilitation with the thesis Uwięziony w śmierci. O twórczości Tadeusz Gajcego . From 1990 he lectured at the University of Warsaw, where he became associate professor in 1993 . In 1996 he became a member of the Polish PEN clubs . From 1996 to 2004 he was a member of the jury for the Nike Literature Prize . He also directed the television program Telewizyjne Wiadomości Literackie from 1996 to 2010 , which was initially broadcast every two weeks on TVP Polonia and from 1999 monthly on TVP2 . In addition, from 1997 to 1998 he directed the culture magazine Latarnik on TVP Polonia and in 2003 the program Jatka Kulturalna on TVP3 . From 2001 to 2003 he was a member of the broadcasting council of TVP 3. From 2006 to 2016 he was a member of the jury for the Central European Angelus Literature Prize . In 2013 he became editor-in-chief of the scientific book series Biblioteka Narodowa .

He lives in Wrocław.
