Stanley Raine Dobinson , Stanley R. Dobinson for short (* June 1888 in Middlesbrough ; † March 31, 1918 ), was a British football player , also known by the nickname David , who took part in a German championship .

Life

Dobinson's parents were Charles Dobinson and his wife Hannah Dobinson, nee Raine. Charles had a hardware store and was one of the 8 directors of Middlesbrough FC in 1895/96 . Stanley attended King Henry VIII School , a private school in Coventry , from 1899 to 1904 . He then moved to Hanover for about a year to learn the German language and begin training.

Before the First World War, Dobinson was employed as a Chartered Accountant in Stockton-on-Tees . On September 2, 1914, a local newspaper reported that the well-known Stockton football player Stanley Dobinson had joined the military as a private . Dobinson came to the front in France in April 1915. He was sent back to England for training in November and promoted to officer in December 1915. He fell to the rank of lieutenant on March 31, 1918 . His name can be found on the Thiepval monument .

Dobinson belonged to the Hanoverian Football Club from 1896 as a striker in 1904/05 , for which he played point games in the championships organized by the Association of Hanoverian Ball Game Clubs in the regional top division, the 1st class .

The only 1.60 m (5ft 3in) tall Dobinson was known in Hanover under the name "David", while his 1.98 m (6ft 6in) tall compatriot and teammate Henry Tripp was known as "Goliath".

Because of the championship won in 1905, Hannover 96 also took part in the final round of the German championship. The team denied only the April 9, 1905 in Magdeburg on the sports field at the trailing saber at the 2: 3 defeat aet. Against the FUCC Eintracht Braunschweig in 1895 discharged first round match in the qualifying round; Dobinson scored the connecting goal to 1: 2.

Stockton

Back in England in 1905, Dobinson played for Stockton FC. Among other things, he was part of the line-up for the final of the FA Amateur Cup in 1912, which Stockton won in the replay.
