Stary Targ ( German Altmark in West Prussia ) is a village in the powiat Sztumski of the Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland . It is the seat of the rural community of the same name .

history

The establishment of the place between 1271 and 1276 is traced back to the Christburger Komtur Hermann von Schönberg.

The six-year armistice between Sweden, Poland and Brandenburg was signed in Altmark in 1629. The Treaty of Altmark ( Swedish Stillståndet i Altmark , Polish Rozejm w Altmarku ) kept Sweden's back free to intervene in the Thirty Years' War . The armistice resulted in the Treaty of Stuhmsdorf in 1635 .

In the referendums following the Treaty of Versailles in 1920, a narrow majority of the citizens voted for Poland.

Until the end of the Second World War, the rural community of Altmark was part of the Stuhm district .

The district Mleczewo has a train station, Dąbrówka Malborska a stop on the Warsaw – Gdańsk railway line . The Szropy, Tropy Igły and Waplewo Wielkie stations were on the Małdyty – Malbork railway line .

Attractions

St. Simon and Jude (2009)

The church of St. Simon and Judas , built around 1325 by the Teutonic Order , was demolished in 1905 except for the tower and replaced by a new, neo-baroque brick building. When the old church was demolished, a small silver treasure was found (a chalice and a monstrance from the 14th century), which may have been hidden here during the Swedish times.

The furnishings of the church from the Baroque and Rococo periods were restored around 1940 and included the following parts:

  • Altar of Mary around 1600, designed by Anselm Rabe from Groß Waplitz and worked out by Justus Reitlein
  • Anthony altar, after 1716
  • High altar, around 1700
  • Holy water font, probably from the 15th century.
  • Offering box from 1699
  • Pulpit and baptismal font, 1st half of the 18th century
