The stately or azure-blue discolouring bald head ( Psilocybe azurescens ) is a psychoactive mushroom from the family of the Trümmling relatives .
features
The hat is 3–10 cm wide, conical to arched, later flat arched, eventually flattening with age with a clear, permanently present, broad hump. Its surface is smooth, sticky when wet, covered with removable gelatinous skin and colored from chestnut brown to ocher yellow-brown. The lamellas are ascending, bulged or grown at the base. They are spotty, brown, often spotted indigo black in injured areas, are close together, with two layers of intermediate lamellae. The blade edges are colored whitish. In large quantities, the spore print is dark purple-brown to purple-black. The meat turns blue very quickly, then turns darker until it turns a deep blue hue, and eventually turns indigo blue, almost black. The stem is 9–20 cm long and 3–6 mm thick, silky white, thickening towards the base of the stem, often curved, surrounded by characteristic, coarse, white mycelium tufts that are strongly blue at pressure points, which are often sky blue and in combination with dense, thick, silky white rhizomorphs occur, which can hardly be detached from pieces of wood or dead grass. From the white, veil-like velum, a fibrous ring zone often remains on the upper section of the stem. The handsome bald head has an extremely bitter taste. It is odorless to slightly floury in odor. The spore powder is dark purple-black. The spores have an elliptical shape and are 9-13.5 × 5-8 µm in size; the basidia are four-pore.

The stately bald head is a saprobiontic wood dweller who, as decomposer, colonizes wood residues and the like in a damp environment.
distribution
This mushroom was first discovered in the United States near Astoria (Oregon) , whereupon it was called " Psilocybe astoriensis ". Only later did it get its mycologically correct name Psilocybe azurescens because of the azure-blue color that occurs when injured . In Europe it was first found in the Krummbachtal near Gerlingen . In the meantime, further occurrences have been discovered. Since the mushroom is grown for its psilocybin content , it can spread further.
Legal
Since the stately bald head contains very high amounts of the ingredients psilocybin and psilocin , which are indicated according to the Narcotics Act , collecting, owning and marketing is prohibited in Germany.
