The Stavanger Stadium is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the Norwegian city of Stavanger , Fylke Rogaland . Today, after a renovation, the stadium has 5,000 seats, 1,000 of which are seats. Instead of the old grandstand, there is now a soccer field and a small soccer field made of artificial turf .
history
The sports facility in the middle of residential buildings was inaugurated on August 13, 1917, and until 2004 the football club Viking Stavanger welcomed its opponents to their home games here. Since May 2004 they have been based in the club's own Viking Stadium outside the city. In the year of the inauguration, the men's soccer cup final between Sarpsborg FK and Brann Bergen (4: 1) took place in front of 10,000 spectators . The Stavanger Stadium was the first Norwegian stadium to have a grass pitch. The second cup final followed in 1929; This time, Sarpsborg FK met FK Ørn in front of 13,000 visitors . After a 2-1 win in extra time, Sarpsborg celebrated the cup victory again at the Stavanger Stadium. For the clash between Viking Stavanger and Odd Grenland on October 4, 1959, 19,800 visitors gathered at the venue. This means a record number of spectators to this day, and after the capacity has been reduced, this record will last.
After Viking Stavanger moved out, the stadium was temporarily closed. At that time it held 17,555 spectators. The covered grandstand was dismantled and the facility was renovated. Some rows of seats with 3,800 seats in the old grandstand were given free of charge to the Sandnes Idrettspark , where the Sandnes Ulf football club plays its games.
