history

In the 10th century, the Counts of Clères built the first chapel dedicated to Saint Mary . Count Alain placed it under the auspices of Saint-Ouen Abbey in 1060 .

In the 12th century it was integrated into the city wall. In the late Middle Ages , a parish was established for the furriers and fur traders who settled in the district , the first pastor of which was Gilles de Brévedent from 1492 to 1500.

After the reconstruction of the nave and the choir , Jean de Massonnaye, Bishop of Hippone, rededicated the church on May 8, 1533. Huguenots plundered it in 1562. During the 17th century the choir was redesigned. In 1674 the funeral of Adrien Martel de Fontaine (from the house of Clères), Commendatar Abbot of Saint-Victor-l'Abbaye , took place in the church.

On November 14, 1792, the church, which had recently been closed, was sold. The church tower was demolished in 1843. Since then, the church has served as a warehouse and wine cellar . In 1941 it was bought back by Jules Jacqueline and restored by the architect Robert Flavigny. It has been used as a concert and conference hall since 1951 and is now again owned by the city of Rouen.
