Ste-Croix (Saint-Dalmas)
The catholic church Sainte-Croix (dt. Heiligkreuz) in Saint-Delmas, a district of Valdeblore in the French department Alpes-Maritimes of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region , was built in the 11th century. The church has been a protected cultural monument ( Monument historique ) since 1943 .
history
The Sainte-Croix church was first mentioned in a document in 1060 . It belonged to the priory of the Abbey of Pedona in Piedmont . The priory church has always been the local parish church .
description
The geostete church is 32.05 meters long and 16.60 meters wide. It consists of rubble and has a wide ship with seven Jochen that with a semicircular apse completes. The two side aisles also end in small apses and there is a crypt under the eastern part of the church . The nave vault was created in the 17th century, when other changes to the church were made. The arcades that separate the aisles from the main nave rest on thick pillars .
Furnishing
In the southern apse there are still wall paintings from the 14th century. They represent Christ in a mandorla , flanked by the symbols of the evangelists . Scenes from the life of John the Baptist can also be seen.
A retable from the beginning of the 16th century depicts the life of St. Francis of Assisi .
