Stefan Krabath (* 1969 in Höxter ) is a German medieval and modern archaeologist .

Life

Stefan Krabath studied prehistory, early history , art history and folklore with Gernot Jacob Friesen and Hans-Georg Stephan at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen . He did his doctorate on the medieval non-ferrous metal finds north of the Alps.

Krabath's main areas of work include jewelry, to which his dissertation , which appeared in print in 2001, was dedicated, and ceramics as well as general research into everyday life and material culture in the Middle Ages and modern times .

In search of the location of Hethis , the first monastery in Solling , he and the archaeologist Hans-Georg Stephan led a 1,100 m² excavation near Neuhaus im Solling in 1999 .

Stefan Krabath worked at the State Office for Archeology of Saxony in Dresden as an area officer in Upper Lusatia , Central Saxony and Vogtland, among others . During this time he researched the historical development of ceramics , tiled stoves and modern burial culture from an archaeological and art-historical perspective. In addition, he carried out excavations in the Bengerode pottery desert and in the old distillery of the Fürstenberg porcelain manufactory .

Since 2017 he has been head of the “Historical Geography and Archeology of the Second Millennium AD” section at the Lower Saxony Institute for Historical Coastal Research in Wilhelmshaven .
