Steffi Marth (* 19th August 1985 in Elsterwerda ) is a German BMX - and mountain bike - cyclist and multiple German champion.
Life
Steffi Marth grew up in the southern Brandenburg municipality of Plessa in the Elbe-Elster district . After primary school, she attended the Elsterschloss-Gymnasium in neighboring Elsterwerda . At the age of 12 she started riding BMX and at the age of 17 she switched to the Lausitzer Sportschule in Cottbus , which, in cooperation with the Brandenburg Olympic base, also offers sports training in the BMX division. Marth finally began to study architecture at the BTU Cottbus , which she finished in 2013 with a master’s degree and a master’s thesis A cable car for La Palma . In addition to her professional career in cycling, she has also been a columnist for the Lausitzer Rundschau for some time .
Athletic career
Steffi Marth began her sporting career at the age of twelve on the then newly opened BMX track in her home town of Plessa, where there is a decades-long cycling tradition. She soon belonged to the German elite in BMX sport and took part in German championships several times, where she was first runner-up in 2001. She was eventually appointed to the German national team and was there for some time the only East German in the national team. Marth was successful in BMX in the Bundesliga. She competed in numerous national races and since 2002 also international races. She also took part in several Euro and World Championships. Due to her sporting success, she was elected Sportswoman of the Year in the Elbe-Elster district in 2003 . Two years later, she took second place in the 2005 election.
Finally, Steffi Marth specialized in mountain biking in the fourcross (4X) discipline . Here she was able to become German champion several times. After many years of sporting success in this discipline, she currently also competes in downhill and enduro races.
After Steffi Marth drove for RSC Cottbus for a few years , she started again in 2010 for her old hometown club RSV Plessa 95 . In the same year she was again elected Sportswoman of the Year in the Elbe-Elster district. After successfully completing her degree in architecture, she began a professional career in 2013.
