Steinhatchee is a census-designated place (CDP) in Taylor County in the US state of Florida with 1047 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Steinhatchee is located at the confluence of the Steinhatchee River in the Gulf of Mexico , about 55 km south of Perry and about 130 km southeast of Tallahassee . The CDP is located at the southwest end of Florida State Road 51 .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the 1047 inhabitants at that time were distributed among 1569 households, most of which are holiday homes used as second homes. 98.7% of the population identified themselves as whites , 0.3% as Indians and 0.3% as Asian Americans . 0.6% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 0.2% to several ethnic groups. 1.9% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 46.7% of all households lived in 15.1% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 61.9% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.01 people and the average family size was 2.45 people.

13.7% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 13.0% were 20 to 39 years old, 30.0% were 40 to 59 years old, and 43.2% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 56 years. 51.0% of the population were male and 49.0% were female.
