The Steinkasbach is a brook in the municipality of Virgen ( Lienz district ). The Steinkasbach flows south of Niedermauern into the Isel .

course

The Steinkasbach rises in several source streams on the so-called Steinkas, a basin in the Lasörling group between Merschenhöhe , Wohl , Gritzer Riegel , Speikboden and Donnerstein . The westernmost source stream rises at around 2,420 meters, another source stream drains the Steinkassee. The Steinkasbach flows in a north-easterly direction through a narrow trough valley. it takes up the Zupalbach on the right side and flows through a wooded valley into which the Achselbach flows on the right side. Shortly after entering the Virgental , the Steinkasbach flows south of the village of Niedermauern on the right into the Isel.

Energy use

The Steinkasbach was made usable for a sawmill by local farmers in 1920 by means of a Venetian gate. In 1954 the openly laid wooden pipeline was replaced by a patent wooden pipeline made of larch wood and a new turbine was installed. However, this was destroyed in the floods in 1965/66. As part of a renovation, the power plant received a new pressure pipeline that was used until 1995. The Steinkasbach power plant now has an expansion water volume of 300 liters per second and a standard energy capacity of around 798,500 kWh. The two-nozzle Pelton turbine is operated with water from the 480-meter-long penstock, which has a net head of 63.5 meters.
