The main settlement of Niedermauern

Niedermauern is a fraction of the municipality of Virgen in East Tyrol. In addition to the village of Niedermauern, it also includes the hamlets of Gries and Rain and in 2001 housed 238 residents.

The center of Niedermauern is in the Isel valley on the banks of the Nilbach. Neighboring fractions are Welzelach in the west, Obermauern in the north, Göriach in the northeast and Virgen-Dorf in the west. Niedermauern is connected to the main town of Virgen by a road and connected to the Virgentaler Landesstraße. The connecting road also connects the hamlet of Gries (1,106 meters), which belongs to Niedermauern and which is grouped around the Isel to the southwest of Niedermauern. If you follow the connecting road over the Isel, it leads west to the hamlet Rain, which is separated from the neighboring Welzelach by the Mullitzbach .

Buildings

In the Rotte Niedermauern there is the listed local chapel , which was consecrated to St. Appolonia. It was built in 1783. There is also the listed Johannes Nepomuk Chapel from the first half of the 19th century in the Rotte Gries . There is also a plague shrine from the 17th century at the fork in the road between Virgen and Niedermauern.
