Gries is a group in the municipality of Virgen ( East Tyrol ). The part of the village was inhabited by 42 people in 1991 and is part of the Niedermauern fraction .

geography

Along with the Rotte Niedermauern and the hamlet Rain, Gries is one of the three local parts of Niedermauern. Gries is located on both sides of the Isel at an altitude of 1,1106 meters on a road that leads from Niedermauern via Gries and Rain to the Welzelach district . In 1991 Gries housed a total of eight houses with seven agricultural and forestry facilities. The state of Tyrol currently has a café, a fish pond and a gravel works as well as nine farms for Gries. These are the Brunner (Niedermauern-Gries No. 4), Göbl and Heisl (No. 6), Innergasperer (No. 7) and Aussergasperer (No. 8) farms in the core of the Rotte, the Häusler farms to the east (No. . 11), Krienhuber (No. 12) and Urberer (No. 13) as well as the Schwaigerhof (No. 16) and the Stampfer farm (No. 18 and 19) on the opposite bank of the Isel.

history

For a long time, Statistics Austria did not specifically mention Gries, but included it in Niedermauern. Only in the course of the 1951 census was Gries shown separately, with the local part consisting of 11 houses with 65 residents. In 1961 the statisticians for Gries reported 12 houses with 58 inhabitants, in 1971 there were eight houses with 43 inhabitants. In 1981, 49 people lived in the eight designated buildings, with a total of 10 households. In 1991 Statistics Austria showed eight buildings with nine households and a resident population of 42 for Gries, with the number of inhabitants for Gries being shown for the last time this year.

Buildings

The listed Nepomukkapelle 1818 on the road between Virgen and Welzelach constructed to replace an Nepomuk wayside shrine. The chapel has a polygonal end, a shingled gable roof with a turret and a curved gable facade. It houses a Gothic altar with a painting of St. Nepomuk from 1818.
