The Stelio Montomoli , formerly Aethalia , is a ferry operated by the regional ferry company Toscana Regionale Marittima (TOREMAR). It has been used on the ferry route between Piombino in Tuscany and Portoferraio on the island of Elba in the Tuscan Archipelago since it was commissioned.

history

The Aethalia was completed in January 1991. In 2012, it was subjected to a structural modernization and given the new Toremar logo. In October 2016 the ship was renamed the Stelio Montomoli in honor of a former president of the Toremar . Parts of the Elban population protested against the renaming, as it had been a tradition for several decades that one of the island ferries was named Aethalia . From 1956 to 1989 a predecessor ship also sailed under this name.

Technical specifications

The ship is powered by two sixteen-cylinder diesel engines from the manufacturer Grandi Motori Trieste (GMT) with an output of 5692  kW .
