Stella di mare - help, we inherit a ship! is a comedy by director Xaver Schwarzenberger from 1999.

action

The Prantner family seems to be unlucky. Head of the family Friedrich struggles with his program in his new recording studio at the mixer . His customers are typical hooligan types. Wife Nina tailors a dress for a Kammersängerin in a fashion salon , but it bursts due to a serious mistake in front of the camera during her appearance at the gala. Because of her desperation, she also destroys Friedrich's recording studio with just "one push of a button". Both are now off their jobs.

The two daughters have different behaviors both privately and at school. Sophie is a hardworking student and guitarist, Marie is the laziest student with three not enough in the certificate. It also turns out that Marie forged the signatures on the early warning letters. Friedrich is at the end of his nerve and Nina is nevertheless optimistic.

When Friedrich wants to get drunk at the neighboring landlord, Nina discovers a registered letter while cleaning up, which Sophie had already received the day before. Now the family's bad luck should come to an end. The letter is from a notary. She inherited, her godfather left her a yacht in the Italian port city of Grado .

So Friedrich (with an initial reluctance) sets off with his wife Nina and their two daughters Sophie and Marie on the way to Italy to take on the promising inheritance. But during the journey, the family notices that they forgot their passports at home. Nina and Marie make their way back to Vienna to get the passports. Because Marie is briefly in the kitchen, she causes an apartment fire by switching on the stove, completely unnoticed.

However, there are no more border controls at the border with Italy. In the Grado lagoon they broke down because of a lack of petrol. An Italian who happens to be passing by helps them to tow them. At breakfast the daughters discover a white luxury yacht with the inscription "Stella" in the harbor. The whole family now finds their way onto the ship that supposedly belongs to them. But they find strange objects in them. Sophie is puzzled and notices that the ship is called "Stellamarin". They are leaving the wrong ship as quickly as possible.

The search for her legacy doesn't end with a luxury yacht, but with a rust-stricken boat. The dock worker welcomes the Prantners immediately and shows them the old yacht. Sophie and Marie are enthusiastic about it, Nina too. But Friedrich initially refuses to take over the inheritance. After spending the first night on the yacht, Friedrich is still grumpy and has the desire to go home. But he cannot enforce this because he is outvoted by his family. Friedrich is happy to help with the renovation of the old ship and when he starts the ship in an unauthorized manner and drives around in the port, the port worker offers him the skipper's license. But Friedrich also refuses and Nina takes care of this matter.

During the oral exam, she needs help by giving the examiner four packs of coffee and 5000 schillings. Nina receives the driver's license. The Prantners now want to travel to other shores, but this is difficult. But they have an Italian with tools to help them, who later flirts with Friedrich. When they want to drive off, the tide is high and they brush the ship's roof on the low bridge. Some time later, the tide is out and they are stuck in the lagoon.

Then the Italian reappears and invites the Prantners to an island where she introduces her family. The festival begins with a hearty meal and ends with a dance. Then the Prantners drive back to the harbor at high tide, where they finally receive the police news of the fire in their Vienna apartment that Marie caused. On the way home, they will be checked for their luggage at the border. When they arrive in Vienna, they find the burned-out apartment, and the neighboring landlord wishes them condolences.

In the apartment, Sophie fears that her parents will divorce because of financial problems. When the whole family embraces, Willy Kralik and Jenny Pippal appear , who turn out to be people in the class lottery . They inform them that they have won 12 million schillings. When the class ticket is needed, Nina fears at first that it was burned, but she finds it undamaged in a can. The ticket number turns out to be correct and the Prantners are millionaires.
