Stepan Simonian

Stepan Simonian (born August 16, 1981 in Moscow , Soviet Union ) is a German concert pianist .

Career

Simonian started playing the piano at the age of five. At the age of 12 he made his concert debut with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra. In school age he won several prizes. In 2000 he began studying piano at the Moscow Conservatory with Pavel Nersessian. After graduating in Russia, he continued his studies at the Hamburg University of Music and Drama with Yevgeny Korolyov in 2004 . Stepan Simonian has been a full professor at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater since 2009 , where he teaches both piano and chamber music .

Prizes and awards

In the USA he won a first prize at the Virginia Waring International Piano Competition in 2005 and a third prize at the José Iturbi International Piano Competition in 2008. In 2009 he was awarded the Berenberg Culture Prize in Hamburg for his chamber music achievements. In 2010 he won the silver medal at the International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig. In 2014 he won 3rd prize at the International Aram Khachaturian Competition in Yerevan.

Concert activity

Simonian was guest artist at the Leipzig Bach Festival , the International Piano Festival La Roque d'Anthéron in France, the Mosel Music Festival , the ProArte concert series in Hamburg, Pro Musica in Hamburg, in the Alte Oper in Frankfurt am Main , the large broadcasting hall in Hanover , the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg and the Prinzregententheater in Munich. He has also played in Carnegie Hall in New York, Duke's Hall of the Royal Academy in London, Palau de la Musica in Valencia and the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg.

He has performed as a soloist with the Bach Collegium Stuttgart under Helmuth Rilling , the Hamburger Symphoniker under David Porcelijn, the Sinfonia Varsovia under Arie van Beek, I Pomeriggi Musicali in Milan, the Moscow Chamber Orchestra and the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra in Leipzig.

Stepan Simonian's concert appearances were broadcast in radio productions by ARD , MDR , NDR , SWR , HR , BR , Deutschlandradio Kultur and Radio France .

His debut CD with the complete recording of JS Bach's piano toccatos (GENUIN) received praise from international music critics.
