art

Stephan Geisler's work alternates between the focus on small-format drawing on paper and large-format painting. It is not uncommon for both areas to merge. For example, many of his works on wooden objects contain elements from both directions.

As a base for his drawings, Stephan Geisler primarily uses everyday paper, such as exercise books, admission tickets or traffic tickets, in addition to the classic drawing pad.

His painting is in the tension between objectivity and abstraction and is constantly characterized by strong colors. It is supplemented on the one hand by collage techniques based on fabric samples , photos and drawings, on the other hand by elements, numbers and texts that are inserted using templates . There are also often handwritten words or additions. In addition to the size and gradation of reality, the variety of levels increases the visual demands on the viewer and also offers room for interpretation.

A frequently varied motif in Stephan Geisler's work are cows. There are also numerous portraits and nudes , oversized male poses but also pictures of a pregnant woman. In addition, everyday objects and situations are often processed, as in the works lüster-n (representation of a chandelier) or onalds (representation of a urinating dog).
