Stephan Grube OT (* 1450 in Leipzig ; † December 20, 1483 in Riga ) was Archbishop of Riga from 1480 until his death .

Life

Grube came from a wealthy middle-class family in Leipzig. After studying in Leipzig and Bologna , he first became a religious priest, later Tressler in a Thuringian religious house. Soon he moved to the Ballei Apulia . Here he was appointed Bishop of Troy in 1474 after the intercession of King Ferdinand I by Pope Sixtus IV , who remained his lifelong patron . From 1478 he applied to the Curia for the office of General Procurator of the Teutonic Order in Rome and was finally successful in 1480. From this position he applied successfully and again against the interests of the Grand Master for the office of Archbishop. From the income of the diocese, which was estimated at 800 florins , he had to give Cardinal Raffaele Riario a pension of 400 florins. He also received the Apulia ballot, which only reverted to the Pope after his death, but not to the Order.
